It’s been a long few days and I’m tired. We’ve had a ton of work to do around the house, gifts to wrap and family to visit. Mind you, I wouldn’t change a thing, however it’s the stuff on top of the Holiday Madness that’s worn me out.
My wrist problem, which was once thought to be carpal tunnel, is actually De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. What does that mean in layman’s terms? The tendons around the base of the thumb are irritated or constricted. The irritation causes the lining (synovium) around the tendon to swell, which changes the shape of the compartment. This makes it difficult for the tendons to move as they should.
So, I’m wearing a brace and wrapping didn’t happen if Christmas gifts weren’t already taken care of. They were shoved in a box and a tag was added to them. (My husband is not a wrapper.) It was too painful. I can type, but only if I do it with 100% proper form that I was taught back in the olden days and don’t use the thumb on my right hand to press the enter key. (I’m also right handed. Happy, happy, joy, joy.)
Then my site has been down. While you could see it up front, it was down in the backend. Here’s a lesson in internet safety and tweens.
When your tween is on your home computer and playing his innocent arcade, he may get a popunder or popup. Said tween will click on this “great new tool” or what have you. It will then install things on your network hub that takes 4 days to clean up and time spent in the scary “run” portion of a windows machine. I hadn’t figured it out as quickly as possible as I work primarily from a Mac and didn’t think about it being a network issue.
Turns out doing a clean up, reading lines of code, uninstalling programs, removing things from the dreaded files of no man’s land, restoring modem and router to factory defaults meant I could login to certain sites (like my blog) and actually write. After a dozen virus scans later…. and the cleaning up rogue .php (most likely injected by said “great new tools”) on my site here (by a dear friend who is a Christmas angel), I’m clean and clear.
There has also been a great speech, that was one-sided and all about internet safety, etc., all from my soapbox.
Have I mentioned I’m tired?
