When I think of myself and how I have lived life, I was one that always wanted to be at the head of the group, leading the charge and making waves. However, my one problem was my chronic shyness and lack of self-esteem. I was the nerdy kid who kept herself locked in a bedroom, boom box on and book in hand. Trust me, those that didn’t know me when I was younger are going to have a hard time believing this.
It’s always been a huge conflict for me. Knowing what I wanted versus what I feared. Let’s face it, I’m the woman who broke out into hives and had full blown panic attacks after having my son at the sheer thought of having to leave the house by myself with him. Yet, I had done quite a bit of travel on my own, without a cell phone. After Peanut? No cell phone? No go. I couldn’t, it was the irrational fear.
The same fear from childhood.
Develop relationships in any medium? I can do that. It’s a talent that I learned from my Grandmother and I do it well. But, go into business with others? Once again, I’m getting ready to step outside of my comfort zone. This time, it’s going to shock everyone.
I’m opening a company.
While I can’t give any particulars at the moment, I have three partners, each extraordinarily successful in their own right. At times, I sit here while we are finishing the final build out, making decisions, debating on services, and creating mission statements to share what our company stands for, I wonder if I have lost my mind. I’m putting myself out there. Truly putting myself out there. Publicly.
It’s like I’m looking at the scariest roller coaster at the park. The one we all want to ride, but are terrified of, yet we get on anyway. Because if we don’t, we will never know if we can do it or not. Me? Once I get on the roller coaster, I never want to get off…just ride it until I’m ready to throw up and then keep going!
I’ll tell you what has me breaking out of my comfort zone to try something new. I have three amazing women that I trust, who are strong businesswomen and I have a great relationship with them. We are in three time zones, each strong in different areas of expertise. Frankly, if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have felt like the risk was worth taking. I would’ve been too scared. But those relationships do matter and they can lead you to try – and do – things you never thought you were capable of. Also, I thank my husband for giving me support when I do have those “Oh My!” moments of worry.
So what have you not tried but would like to? Today is a perfect day to answer that question and do it.
